When is a change from Office 2016 to Office 2019 worthwhile?
The bad news first: The new version of Office 2019 is considerably more expensive than Office 2016. Furthermore, an installation of Office 2019 is only possible on computers running Windows 10. Office 2019 cannot be installed on Windows 7 and Windows 8! At the same time, the software giant reduced the support period from the previous 10 years to now 7 years.
Following the decision to buy Office 2019 and the start of the new system, you will hardly notice any difference compared with Office 2016, since all functions are arranged as usual. You will not have to familiarise yourself with new systems, as it was the case with the transition from Office 2007 to Office 2010.
Office 2019 or Office 2016 – which package is better?
Do the innovations in Office 2019 act as an incentive to upgrade? The renowned applications such as PowerPoint, Word and Outlook are of course included. In addition, applications such as Access, Publisher, InfoPath, and recently also a messenger app called Lync, are provided. However, most users are satisfied with the wide range of functions of Office 2007 or Office 2010 anyway. Unfortunately, Microsoft support is soon no longer available for these products, which is why many companies must upgrade for reasons of security.
If you do not know yet if Office 2016 or Office 2019 is suitable for you, have a look at the predecessor Office 2016. This package offers many attractive functions and is up to 50 % cheaper in the used software trade than Office 2019. Furthermore, the product has long proven its worth in practical tests and is therefore guaranteed to be free from “teething troubles”.
Unfortunately, Microsoft shortened the extended support period of Office 2019 – instead of the former support period of 10 years, extended support is now provided for the latest Office release for only 7 years. You will therefore receive support for both, Office 2016 and Office 2019, until 14 October 2025. This is another reason why many entrepreneurs prefer the more favourably priced used Office 2016.
Office 2019 – a recommendation for cloud sceptics!
Microsoft introduced Office 2019 without causing big sensation, since the company inconspicuously, but efficientlyattempts to convince customers of Office 365. Many private households and SMEs, however, still rather prefer to pay for their software once, than to access a cloud infrastructure and make monthly deposits.
For intensive users who have been waiting for the morph function of PowerPoint, new Excel formulas etc., Office 365 is a consistent option, since updates can be installed almost every month. In addition, this version includes an extremely capable OneDrive storage, and much more. If you cannot identify with the cloud version though and still want to buy a brand-new Office package, it is best to select Office 2019. This Office package provides many more functions and features than your employees will ever need. Thus, the question whether Office 2016 or Office 2019 would be the most suitable product in your everyday office life remains so far unanswered. For us at Software ReUse, all Office packages have their pros and cons.
