What does “LTSB” stand for?
LTSB stands for “Long Term Servicing Branch” and is an update channel reserved exclusively for enterprise customers, offering long-term support (5 years of mainstream support + 5 years of extended support). Unlike the Professional version, LTSB is rolled out without preinstalled apps (such as Cortana, the Edge browser, and telemetry data collection).
A version will be installed that, unlike Windows Professional, does not receive feature updates, but only security updates.
Microsoft promises to release new versions every 2–3 years. LTSB has recently been renamed “LTSC” (Long Term Servicing Channel) and released as version 2019.
What types of applications is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB suitable for?
Microsoft recommends this stripped-down system for specific scenarios, such as plant control systems, ATMs, or point-of-sale systems. However, there are also companies that deliberately choose to use LTSB versions on their end-user devices.

What versions of LTSB are available?
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB can be purchased used in the 2015 and 2016 versions. Starting with the 2019 version, LTSB was renamed LTSC.
How can I buy a used Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB license?
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB can only be purchased through volume licensing agreements, such as Select and Enterprise Agreement. It is much easier to purchase a used license, which includes the same usage rights as a new license but is significantly more cost-effective.
How is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB licensed?
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB is always licensed per device. This means you must purchase a license for each device on which it is installed.
Downgrade and Down-Edition rights:
All LTSB versions may also be installed as older versions of Windows, such as Windows 8 Enterprise or Windows 7 Enterprise. However, thanks to down-edition rights, they may also be installed as Windows 10 Professional.

- Fewer features—no Cortana, etc., preinstalled
- No driver updates, risk of hardware incompatibilities
- No option for newer versions
- No compatibility with Office 365 starting in January 2020—as an alternative, we recommend Office 2016 or 2019 as a purchased version
- You must carefully consider whether this version is suitable for your IT infrastructure
